The rooms are huge, clean, and comfy. The onsen experience is really good too, as with the meals provided. Great value for money. Small suggestion for improvement: perhaps some information on the available transport options could be sent to guests in advance. There are basically 2 options: (1) take Shuttle A (¥200/person) > alight at Hotel Okada > walk the sheltered path on the 8th floor to Hakonenomori, (2) take Bus K (fare is distance-based, covered under the Hakone Free Pass) > alight at Oku Yumoto Iriguchi > walk ~5min to Hotel Okada > walk the sheltered path on the 8th floor to Hakonenomori.

We purposely booked this hotel to experience a traditional ryokan as part of our 2 week visit to Japan. Hakonenomori Okada did not disappoint. The room we stayed in had 2 beds and space for another 4 futons. The traditional kaiseki dinner was amazing and the indoor and outdoor onsen was an experience to remember...especially taking a dip when the temperature was 6C. The breakfast was average but the view from the dining room was spectacular. I would also like to mention that the receptionist helped us arrange to ship our luggage to our next destination.

Everyone enjoyed the onsens. We stayed in a family room and both the beds and futons were very comfortable. The view from the room was lovely. The staff were very obliging and offered to provide a late dinner to our son & his partner who were travelling to Hakone after work from Tokyo. The dinners were different each night of our 2 night stay which we appreciated and our specific dietary requirements were catered for. We thought the rates were good value considering both breakfast and dinner were included in the price. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

The area was a quiet and relaxing one. The onsen was super relaxing and so were the massage chairs (free of use), that was a really nice final touch after the onsen 😊 The beds were extremely comfortable. The breakfast was tasty, and contrary to what I read in previous comments, there are a few « western breakfast items » (2 types of cereals, mini croissants, mini (soft) breads with jams, not much but already something). Also poached eggs.

The open-air onsen is the top feature of this ryokan. We went after the sunset and we could relax while contemplating the starry sky. Oh, it also includes beauty products such as face tonics or body milk that smells amazing, which is a plus. The room was spacious and clean, even if it's noticeable that the place is a little old. The people from the reception and the restaurant were very kind and helpful.
